This is the thirty-eighth annual national juried exhibition produced by the Associates of the Brand Library & Art Center. Eighty works on paper in a variety of media, including photography, drawings, various print techniques including etchings, linocuts, lithographs and monotypes, watercolors and mixed media works have been selected. The Brand Associates Purchase Award and other awards will be presented during the reception on Saturday, October 3rd. The awards are made possible by generous donations from the community, Associates members, local merchants, and other affiliated art organizations.
This exciting exhibition features the work of seventy-five artists and many local residents from Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles, various San Gabriel and San Fernando Valley cities and other parts of California in addition to the works from artists across the country.
The annual national juried exhibitions have been organized and sponsored by the Associates of Brand Library since 1971. The current organizer of this annual exhibition is Associates Board Member Irena Raulinaitis and she remarks "This year's works on paper exhibit, Brand 38, deals with the many aspects of Beginnings as interpreted by artists in the various techniques, from sculpture, books, prints, paintings, photography, etc., all on paper."
JUROR: Ruth Weisberg is an artist who works primarily in painting, drawing, printmaking and large scale installation. She is the Dean of the Roski School of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California. In a poetic description of her art Weisberg says The visual qualities of my work are often affected by the lens of memory, by the sense of the passage of time and the act of remembering. Various media appeal to me for their distinctive strategies and associations, but especially for their visual qualities. She has exhibited in over seventy solo shows, most recently at the Norton Simon Museum and Jack Rutberg Fine Arts, as well as 170 group exhibitions. Her work is included in 65 major museum and university collections, including the Bibliotheque Nationale of France, Paris; the Instituto Nationale per la Grafica, Rome; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Whitney Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
The Associates of Brand Library is non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to aid and promote the Brand Library and its Art Center through sponsorship of programs and donations, and to foster art and music education in the community.
