Photo Exhibit during August, Central Library Display Case
Longtime Glendale resident Thomas G. Smith, filmmaker and author, discusses his exhibit of photos from post-World War II Europe. At the age of ten he received a Kodak Baby Brownie Camera that he used to photograph life in Europe after WWII. He recently discovered seventeen original photos from that time.
The exhibit will include enlarged versions of the photos and his trusty camera, a simple plastic box with no batteries, no digital display, that he used sixty years ago to record the interesting times in which he lived.
Tom was a filmmaker/producer for George Lucas, Disney, ABC and The Jim Henson Company. While head of George Lucas' visual effects facility, Tom wrote Industrial Light and Magic; the art of special effects. It has sold close to 100,000 copies and is still in print; perhaps the most important book written on the subject of motion picture special effects prior to the digital era. He is also the author of a Civil War novel, Massacre at Baxter Springs.
