The Brand Library Art Galleries and the Associates of Brand Library & Art Center are pleased to present
Brand 36: Thirty-Sixth National Juried Exhibition, Works on Paper: Secrets & Confessions.

On view: October 6 – November 16, 2007
Reception & Awards Ceremony: Saturday, October 6, 4-7 pm

This is the thirty-sixth annual national juried exhibition produced by the Associates of the Brand Library & Art Center. Eighty-seven works on paper in a variety of media, including etchings, photography, drawings, prints, watercolors and mixed media works have been selected by Juror Lita Albuquerque based on the technical quality of the work and the successful expression of the exhibition’s theme of secrets and confessions. The Brand Associates Purchase Award and other awards, totaling almost $4000 will be presented during the reception on Saturday, October 6th.

This exciting exhibition features the work of many local artists from Glendale, Burbank, South Pasadena, Los Angeles, and other parts of California in addition to the works from artists across the country.

JUROR: Lita Albuquerque completed the largest environmental work ever done on the Antarctic continent, Stellar Axis: Antarctica, through the National Science Foundation Artists and Writers Grants Program in December 2006. Other site specific environmental works which have garnered much critical and public acclaim include: Sol Star at the 1996 Sixth International Cairo Biennale, Cairo, Egypt; Spine of the Earth at El Mirage Dry Lake Desert, CA for the Public Broadcasting System and KCET TV’s Artworks/Earthworks documentary aired in May 1990; and the Washington Monument Project in 1980 funded by the International Sculptural Conference, Washington, DC.

Albuquerque has exhibited her works at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Le Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, the New York Academy of the Sciences and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Additional information about Lita Albuquerque can be found at http://litaalbuquerque.com and http://stellaraxis.com.

This Annual Exhibition & Sale of Works on Paper has been sponsored by the Associates of the Brand since 1970.
