About the Galleries

Works will represent individual artists, guest curators for group exhibitions, or art associations throughout California, particularly Southern California. Artists are selected by the merit of their work and to fit into a balanced schedule. For many exhibitions, at least two artists are selected, one for the Atrium Gallery, the other(s) for the Skylight Gallery. Group shows may include three or more artists.

The Gallery Manager determines selection, dates, and duration of exhibitions with approval by the Brand Senior Library Supervisor and Library Administration. Criteria for selection include but are not limited to: an artist's resume or vitae and proven ability, an appropriate body of work that is compatible with the space, and the ability to provide work ready for installation by an agreed upon date. Because the number of exhibitions is limited, few submissions will be offered a show. Installations designed specifically for the Brand Galleries are encouraged.

Each show is individually installed and up to one week is allowed between shows. To insure the completion of installations under this time schedule and allow for necessary Gallery maintenance and preparation, the Brand Gallery Staff is responsible for the design, layout and installation of the exhibition.

The art galleries present four city-funded exhibitions each year including one annual juried show, sponsored by the Associates of Brand Library and Art Center. Additional exhibitions or showcases may be presented by City Departments or Commissions at the discretion of the Gallery Manager and as the schedule allows.
