Early Readers

Early Readers For the very beginning reader all of these titles have very few words on each page and often the story is told in rhyme. These books can be found in the jE section in the Library under the author's last name. Click on the book cover to go to the Library's catalog and check availability or to place a hold.
	Sunshine, Moonshine Jennifer Armstrong Illustrations and rhyming text follow the sun and moon as they shine on a young boy's day.
	Sometimes Keith Baker An alligator feels different things from time to time, but they are all okay.
	Duck & Company Kathy Caple Rat and Duck run a bookshop and work to find the right book for each of their customers.
	Pedro's Burro Alyssa Capucilli Pedro and his papa go to the market to look for the perfect burro.
	Whoo? Whoo? David Carter Die-cut pages are used to reveal gradually parts of an overall picture as the reader is asked to guess what the eventual picture will be. Large and clear type are used.
	Emma and Eddie (Sand Castle First Sounds series, various authors) Kelly Doudna This series introduces one phonemic sound per book with vocabulary words beginning with that specific sound.
	Color Farm Lois Ehlert The rooster, dog, sheep, cow, pig, and other animals on a farm are made up of colorful shapes such as square, circle, rectangle, and triangle. Features die-cut pages. One word for each animal per page is written in large clear black type. We also suggest COLOR ZOO by Lois Ehlert. .
	The Summer Playground Carl Emerson In the summer, Emma and Owen visit Old Oak at the park. The park gets a new playground. Will the heat keep Emma and Owen from enjoying it?
	I Like Bugs (Wonder Books Phonics series, various authors) Alice Flanagan Each book explores one letter and its phonetic sound using simple text and repetition.
	All Kinds of Kids Christina Mia Gardeski Children may be different in how they look, what they like to do, and even what they like to eat, but they all have great smiles.
	Teddy Bear for Sale Gail Herman A teddy bear whom no one wants to buy leaves his shelf in the toy store and sets out for adventure.
	Down on the Farm Rita Lascaro A child naps like the cat, flaps like the hen, swims like the duck, and imitates the other animals on the farm.
	On Market Street Anita Lobel Easy to read alphabet book with each page illustrating a shopping item being bought.
	Just Clowning Around: Two Stories Steven MacDonald A young bear and her dad, both circus clowns, enjoy spending time together doing tricks and going for a bicycle ride.
	A Bug, a Bear and a Boy David McPhail Three friends learn, to love and play together. This book uses longer sentences repetitive vocabulary.
