New Mixed Media

Artworks by Hadiya Finley, Kaloust Guedel, Kay Kropp, and Michele Martini

October 14 - December 1, 2006
Opening Reception - Saturday, October 14

  • Meet the Artists - 4-5 pm
  • Refreshments - 5-7 pm
Hadiya Finley
Hadiya Finley received her MFA in sculpture from Claremont Graduate University and has exhibited widely in the Los Angeles area. Finley's figurative sculptural work explores a variety of materials and processes. The Arte Povera movement of the 1960s and 1970s, which emphasized the use of everyday materials and casual construction methods, is an inspiration for the artist; in her work, twigs, tree limbs, oozing glue, wood fillers and excess solder infuse the finished works of art with life.

Kaloust Guedel
Kaloust Guedel creates large mixed-media canvases that are mounted over board. His disconcerting abstractions of the human head are intensely expressive and stimulate engagement and dialog with the viewer. Guedel has exhibited his art work across the United States at venues that include the Parsons School of Design in New York, the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, and the Forest Lawn Museum in Los Angeles. In addition, he recently curated From Ararat to America, Armenian Contemporary Artists for the Forest Lawn Museum.

Kay Kropp
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Kay Kropp has been exhibiting her art work in the Los Angeles area since 1999. Her work has been selected for inclusion in numerous juried exhibitions at venues such as the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, the Palos Verdes Art Center, and the Lankershim Art Gallery in Los Angeles. In Kropp's current pieces, delicate brushwork is combined with figurative sculptural elements and interactive audio that is a playful surprise for the viewer.

Michele Martini
Michele Martini's work expressively incorporates rich saturated colors and a variety of mixed media including staples, zippers and string. Through her art, Martini seeks to raise awareness of the problems of domestic and child abuse. Although the subject matter is sobering, the beautiful works also express a message of hope. Martini has a Master of Arts degree from California State University Northridge and has been exhibiting her artwork in Southern California for over ten years.
